5 Important Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Choosing a wedding photographer is a big decision. They are the ones who will provide your keepsakes and what you’ll look back on for years to come. It’s a decision that should be made with proper consideration. If you aren’t familiar with photography, you might not know what to ask your potential photographer. Don’t worry, we have listed 5 important questions you should ask your photographer before you commit.

  1. How long have you been a professional photographer?

Experience matters! There is a difference in quality from a photographer who has been in the profession 6 months compared to 6 years. Be sure to ask how long they’ve been a photographer and what their experience has been like.

  2. What is your editing style?

Every photographer is unique and has a style they tend to do. That’s not to say a photographer can only edit in one style, but it is definitely something you should. discuss beforehand. For instance, if you are wanting a moody and romantic style for your photos and this wasn’t discussed beforehand, your photographer might edit them as light and airy. Communication is key. We definitely have our go to style when editing, but are more than happy to edit your wedding pictures in your desired style.

  3. Do you have a backup plan?

Unexpected things happen, so having a backup plan is important. Check with your photographer on what they might do in certain situations. For instance, if you are having a summer wedding in our always unpredictable Florida weather, check with your photographer on what might happen if you had to reschedule due to weather. Or if the photographer was unable to be at the wedding whether for sickness, emergency, or whatever might happen, what is the backup plan? While we’ve never had to enact a backup plan, we include one in our contract, so there is no confusion for the couple. We make sure if something were to happen, the couple is covered and does not have to stress.

  4. When can we expect to receive our full gallery?

I’m sure you’ll want them the next day (I know I did!), but good things take time. Your photographer should be able to provide you a time frame on when your full gallery will be delivered to you. All our deliverables are sent to our clients within three months of their wedding, but most often sooner. We are just as excited for you to see them as you are!

  5. What is it like to work with you?

The best way to get a feel for a photographer and what it might be like to work with them is to set up a call or meet in person. Ask them how they lead the day and what their shooting style is like. The best photographers will make you laugh and feel at ease about your wedding day. We are there to make it fun and stress free! We’ll be sure to capture all the smiles, laughs, and tears that make the day special.

Always be sure to talk with your photographer on the phone or in person before signing a contact and make sure you’re on the same page! There are so many amazing photographers who would love to capture your wedding, so if you aren’t sure about one, talk to another, and I’m sure you’ll find the best fit for your wedding.
